Compare the Pokemon TCG Stellar Crown and Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Boxes to decide which one fits your collection goals and budget.
Quick answer
Choose the Stellar Crown Elite Trainer Box if you want the latest set with the Legendary Terapagos and Stellar Tera Pokemon ex. Choose Obsidian Flames if you're chasing the iconic Charizard ex and prefer a darker, fiery aesthetic.
What's inside each Elite Trainer Box
Both Elite Trainer Boxes share the same core contents: 9 booster packs, 65 card sleeves, 45 Pokemon TCG Energy cards, a player's guide, condition markers, a rulebook, and a collector's box. The real difference lies in the card pool and the theme.
The Stellar Crown ETB focuses on the Terastal phenomenon and introduces Stellar Tera Pokemon ex like Terapagos, Cinderace ex, Lapras ex, and Galvantula ex. It also includes the newly discovered Hydrapple ex and ACE SPEC cards, which add strategic depth to your deck.
Obsidian Flames centers on Charizard ex and a darker, fiery aesthetic. It also features Terastal Pokemon ex like Tyranitar, Eiscue, and Vespiquen with different types than usual, plus Dragonite ex and Greedent ex.
Price difference and value
The Obsidian Flames ETB is currently priced at USD 214.62, while Stellar Crown is USD 106.20. That's a significant gap, so your budget plays a big role in the decision.
If you're after the most packs for your money, Stellar Crown offers a lower entry point. Obsidian Flames carries a premium due to the Charizard ex chase card and its popularity among collectors.
Which one fits your collecting style?
If you're a competitive player, the ACE SPEC cards in Stellar Crown can be a game-changer. If you're a collector, the allure of Charizard ex in Obsidian Flames might be hard to resist.
Both sets feature the Terastal phenomenon, but the theme and Pokemon selection are distinct. Consider which Pokemon you care about most before making a choice.
Stellar Crown vs Obsidian Flames: Trade-offs
- Chase card priority: If Charizard ex is your main goal, pick Obsidian Flames. If you want the new Terapagos or ACE SPEC cards, go with Stellar Crown. Decide which Pokemon you want before buying.
- Budget: Stellar Crown is roughly half the price of Obsidian Flames, so it's a more affordable way to get 9 booster packs and the usual ETB accessories. Consider how much you're willing to spend per pack.
- Competitive play: Stellar Crown's ACE SPEC cards can enhance your deck, while Obsidian Flames may offer fewer meta-relevant cards depending on your strategy. Check current deck lists to see which set has more playable cards.
