A detailed look at the Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes Collection sold at Costco, including the card list, what you get, and whether it's worth the price for collectors and players.
Quick answer
The Pokemon Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes Collection is a Costco-exclusive set that bundles three separate boxes, each containing a foil promo card, an oversize lenticular promo card, and four booster packs from the Ascended Heroes expansion. It is best for collectors who want exclusive promo cards and players who need a booster pack bundle at a slight discount.
What is inside the Ascended Heroes Collection?
This Costco set is a bundle of three boxes: Mega Meganium ex Box, Mega Emboar ex Box, and Mega Feraligatr ex Box. Each box includes one foil promo card featuring that Pokemon, one oversize lenticular promo card, and four booster packs of Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes. In total, you get three promo cards (one per box), three lenticular cards, and 12 booster packs. The promo cards are exclusive to this collection and cannot be found in regular booster packs.
Comparing value: Costco bundle vs. buying separately
The catalog comparison price of USD 111.00 suggests the combined retail value of three individual boxes and their contents. The actual Costco price is USD 69.93, which is a significant discount. However, you are locked into the three specific promo Pokemon—Meganium ex, Emboar ex, and Feraligatr ex. If you only want one of these, buying a single box elsewhere might be cheaper, though you lose the Costco bundle discount. Also, note that the booster packs inside are random, so you might get duplicates of commons if you already own many Ascended Heroes packs.
Are the promo cards playable or just collectible?
The foil promo cards are legal in standard play (they have the same text as regular versions) but feature exclusive art. The oversize lenticular cards are not standard size and cannot be used in a deck—they are purely collectible display items. If you are a competitive player, the promo cards are a nice bonus but not essential; you can get the same game effects from cheaper non-foil versions. Collectors, on the other hand, will value the unique lenticular cards and foil finishes.
Decision rules for the Ascended Heroes Collection
- If you collect exclusive promo cards: Buy the Costco bundle. The foil and lenticular promo cards are only available in this set, making it a must-have for dedicated Pokemon TCG collectors.
- If you are a player building a deck: Consider the bundle if you need 12 booster packs for drafting or sealed pack play. The promo cards are a bonus, but you can get the same gameplay from cheaper singles.
- If you only want one specific promo Pokemon: Look for a single box (Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, or Mega Feraligatr ex) sold individually. The Costco bundle forces you to buy all three, which may not be worth it if you dislike the other two. Check local game stores or online marketplaces for individual boxes before committing to the full bundle.
- If you are on a tight budget: The bundle price of USD 69.93 is a discount from the catalog comparison price of USD 111.00, but you are still spending nearly $70. If you only want booster packs, cheaper options like single booster boxes or loose packs may be more economical.
