How to Clean and Maintain a Factory Sealed PS2 Slim Bundle

Quick Answer

To keep a factory sealed PS2 Slim bundle in top condition, focus on controlled storage, gentle cleaning of the outer packaging, and avoiding actions that could break the seal.

Step-by-Step Care Routine

1. Inspect the seal and packaging: Examine the factory seal and box for any existing damage. Note any tears, scuffs, or discoloration. This gives you a baseline and helps you avoid causing further damage during handling. Take photos of the condition for your records.
2. Store in a controlled environment: Keep the bundle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and humidity. Aim for a stable temperature between 60-75°F (15-24°C) and relative humidity below 50%. Avoid attics, basements, and garages where temperature and moisture fluctuate. Use a dehumidifier if you live in a humid climate.
3. Handle with clean, dry hands or gloves: Before touching the box, wash and dry your hands thoroughly. For extra protection, wear cotton gloves to prevent oils and dirt from transferring to the packaging. Hold the box from the bottom and sides, not the top where the seal is often located. Never use lotion before handling the box.
4. Clean the exterior gently: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the outside of the box. For stubborn dust, use a soft brush attachment on a low-suction vacuum or a can of compressed air held at a distance. Do not use water, cleaning sprays, or any liquids on the box. Never apply pressure that could crease the box.
5. Protect with an outer sleeve or display case: Place the bundle in an acid-free, archival-quality protective sleeve or a clear acrylic display case. This shields the packaging from dust, scratches, and accidental bumps. If you stack items, put the bundle on top to avoid crushing. Avoid plastic sleeves that contain PVC, which can damage the box over time.
6. Avoid opening the seal unless necessary: If you plan to keep the item as a collectible, do not break the factory seal. If you must open it to use the console, be aware that the item will no longer be considered factory sealed and its resale value will drop significantly. If you do open it, keep all original packaging and accessories together.
